Statement earrings are GIGANTIC news for AW17. Just leaf through the pages of the Sunday style supplements, the fashion magazines or the major fashion house news and you will see statement fashion jewellery taking centre stage this season, especially it seems the earrings. The beauty of statement earrings is they never really go out of fashion. They are a wardrobe staple it seems, with regular periodic resurgence in the seasonal fashion stakes. Easy to understand why – they look incredible teamed with denim, your wedding gown or a total diva party frock. The choices for how you team them with your wardrobe and wear them is endless and my brilliant customers stories are pure testament to that! So I guess if you love earrings, especially statement earrings, you’ll wear them when you want and so it doesn’t really matter what the press is saying about them right? Kinda fun though when the resurgence hits and you can feel that little skip of joy leafing through all the extra photos in the press and not to mention the swell in the offering to to take your collection that step further.
With that in mind, whether it’s time to take the plunge with your first pair of statement earrings, or you’re feeling in the mood to enhance your already amazing collection, then why not go one step further and choose a statement earring with a past, a history, indeed a truly wearable work of fashion art that has lived a little! VINTAGE STATEMENT EARRINGS are one of my favourite topics and pieces to own and wear. Being an 80s child it was difficult to ignore the lure of the uber glamorous statement earring and 30 years on I am still ridiculously besotted. Seemingly I never fail to find exciting designs, designers, colours, stones, metals, materials, shapes and sizes of earrings, in the vast array of vintage and preloved designer earrings on offer. In fact, on reflection, I have been an earring lover and on the hunt for the next jewelled creation, ever since I started dressing up about aged 6. I recall making my own, from beads, fuse wire and Nanna’s old clips….from my Nan’s old earrings. The rest is history I guess as I sit here typing my Jennifer Gibson Jewellery journal!
