The Mughal Empire’s Impact on Jewellery
Distinctive Features of Mughal-Inspired Jewellery
Hallmarks of Mughal jewellery included floral motifs, the setting of gemstones in gold (Kundan work), uncut or Polki diamonds, enamel work including vibrant Meenakari designs and precision in patterns or symmetry.
The Art of Crafting
The Mughal craftsman and jewellers leveraged a rich array of materials to bring their art to fruition. Gold was a mainstay, a symbol of opulence and wealth. Often set with gemstones the gold would shine with rubies, emeralds and Polki or rough-cut diamonds. Some of the most famous Mughal gemstones include rare rubies and emeralds – large and carved or scribed with words. Pearls were incorporated to provide lustrous accent, and enamels were intricate and vibrant.
Highly Prized
Mughal-inspired jewellery celebrates a grand cultural legacy with unmatched beauty and craftsmanship. Its timeless designs continue to captivate modern admirers, blending history with contemporary elegance.
We hope you enjoy perusing our collection of jewels inspired by this extraordinary legacy.
