No stranger to world class affiliations, including the iconic Fenwick of Bond Street and London’s world-renowned V&A museum, I’m hugely proud and more than a little excited to join the ‘jewellery destinations’ of Selfridges London, Manchester Exchange Square and Birmingham.
As career highs go (and incredibly, there have been a fair few of these over the last 18 months), this one is a real dream come true for me.
The Collections
I’m absolutely thrilled to bring my unique brand of vintage to Selfridges in three truly stunning, one-of-a-kind collections, which will also be available online. For Selfridges’ historic Oxford Street store, I have put together a 31-piece edit, which is a real celebration of costume jewellery. It’s all about timeless glamour and elegance, with exquisite jewels ranging from mid-century to the 1990s. This exclusive edit includes effortlessly chic crystal collars, eye-catching shoulder duster earrings, delicate chains with quirky charms and some exceptionally beautiful vintage trinkets, including an enamelled Russian silver box and a crystal-embellished handbag mirror.
For Selfridges Manchester Exchange Square and Birmingham, we’ve gone full on designer with catwalk cool of the 80s and 90s, celebrating the cult age of the supermodel. Both collections feature high-end pieces of designer jewellery from legendary Parisian couture houses, Chanel, Dior and Givenchy, including some incredible golden oval Christian Dior earrings, identical to those worn on the runway in 1991 by the legendary Linda Evangelista. There’s a bold mix of dazzling gold, white crystal and classic pearl pieces and more than a little logo love for those that like to say it with a name.
A Special Connection
Growing up in the Manchester area, I have a huge emotional connection to Exchange Square, where my mum ran a successful antiques business in the 80s and 90s. I spent my teenage years immersed in the wonderful world of antiques and developed a lifelong obsession with vintage jewellery. Weekends were invariably spent searching for vintage gems and working in the family business. Returning to Exchange Square this year with a rather special vintage collection of my own feels very much like I’ve come full circle.
Birmingham is also a place full of happy memories, with many an early morning hour spent queuing for antique fairs, hunting for jewels, near the old Bull Ring; now the location of the fabulously iconic Selfridges Birmingham store.
The Selfridges Story
Voted the Best Store in the World an incredible four times (the only store to boast this unique accolade), the Selfridges name is synonymous with style, creativity and innovation. Since the Oxford Street store famously threw open its doors in March 1909, Selfridges has always strived to do things differently. When Harry Gordon Selfridge realised his dream, he left an indelible mark on the face of the retail industry and completely transformed the way we shop.
And his legacy of change lives on. Selfridges continues to reinvent retail with its ground-breaking new campaign, Project Earth. Launched in August 2020, Project Earth has shown the world that Selfridges is not just about luxury fashion, and it has already been hailed as one of the industry’s biggest and best green campaigns. Putting sustainability at the heart of everything it does, Selfridges has shown a real commitment to change the way that its customers shop. I’m delighted to be part of the store’s new Closing the Loop edit and brilliant Resellfridges offering.
And whilst Christmas and the run up to it will be like no other this year, I’m delighted to be taking part in the Selfridges’ Christmas campaign and adding a little sprinkle of JGJ vintage magic both instore and online this festive season. This year at Selfridges, Christmas is a wonderful celebration of vintage glamour, purposeful luxury, classical gifts and timeless traditions, with sustainability right at the heart of it.
A perfect fit with our ethos at Jennifer Gibson Jewellery.
Love From Jennifer X
