Who wouldn’t want to own a piece of vintage Chanel jewellery? A major part of her eponymous House since 1923 Gabrielle Chanel’s jewel legacy is unparalleled. A passionate innovator and champion of ‘bijoux de couture’ or ‘costume jewellery’, Gabrielle made ‘faux’ de rigeur in high society, taking wearable art stratospheric. The world and almost every fashion house following suit, captivated by her inimitable, timeless jewel style. Following Gabrielle’s passing, her jewel legacy entered a new mega-watt era with Karl Lagerfeld and Victoire de Castellane designing Chanel costume jewellery from the early ‘80s. Their collections immortalised the interlocking Cs and took jewelling excess to new and dizzy heights, all the while remaining true to the DNA of Gabrielle’s eponymous House.
