An exceptionally detailed pair of signed Vintage Schiaparelli Tassel Art Glass Earrings dating to the late 1940s or early 1950s, combining romantic historic references with the House’s unmistakable instinct for theatricality and invention.

The repoussé style worked tops immediately bring a sense of opulence and old world ornamentation, almost Renaissance in mood, with layered floral and foliate detailing giving the earrings an architectural quality rarely found in costume jewellery of the period. Beneath, a cascade of filigree spheres and faceted glass drops creates movement, texture and extraordinary depth.

Particularly striking are the glass beads themselves. Rich orangey red tones merge into amber citrine hues with an almost suspended quality, the colour appearing to float and shift within each faceted bead as the light moves across the surface. The effect feels warm, glowing and unusually dimensional, heightened further by the delicate gilt bead caps and intricate metalwork throughout.

There is a beautiful tension within the design. Elements that reference centuries old jewellery traditions sit alongside the more expressive and imaginative styling that defined Schiaparelli’s work. The result feels richly decorative yet still distinctly artistic and unconventional.
Strikingly evocative examples of the House’s enduring originality.

Why this piece: An exceptionally intricate and beautifully preserved signed Schiaparelli design, bringing together historic influence, remarkable glasswork and the expressive glamour that continues to define the House’s legacy. Despite their late 1940s to 1950s origins, the warmth of the colouring, layered texture and sculptural movement give the earrings a strikingly modern feel even today.

Elsa Schiaparelli founded the House of Schiaparelli in Paris in the late 1920s and remained at its creative helm through the 1930s and into the post war years, establishing one of the most intellectually daring and artistically significant couture houses of the 20th century. Working at the intersection of fashion, surrealism and art, Schiaparelli collaborated with some of the leading creative minds of her era, including Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau. Her work challenged traditional ideas of couture through bold symbolism, sculptural forms and an instinct for disruption that still feels remarkably modern today. Jewellery played a central role within her vision. Never treated as secondary adornment, Schiaparelli’s jewels became part of the narrative itself. Surreal motifs, unexpected materials and striking scale brought wit, theatricality and artistic commentary into couture at the very highest level. Though Elsa Schiaparelli closed her house in 1954, her influence has never faded. The visual language she created continues to shape contemporary fashion, from statement jewellery and sculptural accessories to the blending of art and couture

e seen across the industry today. Under the current direction of Daniel Roseberry, the House of Schiaparelli has introduced her legacy to a new generation, reaffirming its place as one of fashion’s most iconic and enduring maisons.

Vintage costume jewellery is delicate and requires special care and attention.

To preserve its continued beauty and condition, it is important to keep your item boxed and protected from other jewellery when not being worn and away from liquids including perfume and hairspray. Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.

Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.

We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.

Additional Care Tips:
Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.

Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing. Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.

Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.

We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
