An exceptional pair of early French Vintage Maison Gripoix Earrings dating to at least 1940s, possibly earlier. The legendary House of Gripoix played perhaps the greatest role in the rise of bijouterie in the early 20th Century. It began in 1869 when Paris master glass-maker Augustina Gripoix began making replicas of pearls and crystals. Using the pate de verre or glass paste technique, Augustina made her crystals by pouring the melted glass paste into the moulds skipping the furnace step, allowing her to achieve the purity of colour, transparency and shine that has come to be so highly prized and reverred in Gripoix pieces. This simple method for the creation of breathtaking jewels resulted in Royalty and High Society clamouring for Madame Gripoix to create replicas of their fine jewellery in case of robbery or loss and fashionistas asking for new more adventurous jewels to be created to add to their repertoire. And so it is Madame Gripoix and some years later her long lasting partnership with Coco Chanel that elevated faux to new heights. That said, the craftsmanship was undoubtedly second to none and pieces from the House of Gripoix, either from their own line of for the couture Houses such as Chanel, remain highly sought after. This pair of earrings are crafted exquisitely from gilded metal, filled with turquoise glass pates and clear paste accent stones for the framing. There is some very light age related wear to the gripoix glass on the reverse of one earrings with a hairline although the glass remains secure and overall the earrings remain in good vintage condition. 6cm. Please note, owing to the nature of their construction, these earrings will require careful handling when wearing and storing. A real collectors piece of incredible French jewellery heritage that easily passes for wearable couture art.

Vintage costume jewellery is delicate and requires special care and attention.

To preserve its continued beauty and condition, it is important to keep your item boxed and protected from other jewellery when not being worn and away from liquids including perfume and hairspray. Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.

Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.

We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.

Additional Care Tips:
Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.

Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing. Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.

Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.

We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
