The Legacy of Vintage Chanel Jewellery
Who could resist the allure of owning a piece of vintage Chanel jewellery? Since 1923, when Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel first introduced costume jewellery into her collections, Chanel’s jewel legacy has remained unrivalled. With a visionary spirit, she championed ‘bijoux de couture’- elevating faux jewellery to high fashion status and making it a mainstay in the wardrobes of society’s most stylish women. Her designs broke convention and redefined elegance – layered pearls, bold chains, and gilt finishes became signatures of a new kind of luxury: wearable art. The fashion world followed suit, captivated by her inimitable style and uncompromising vision.
Rooted in the pioneering vision of Gabrielle Chanel, who elevated costume jewellery to an essential expression of modern style, the House of Chanel entered a defining chapter under Karl Lagerfeld from the early 1980s. With Victoire de Castellane leading costume jewellery design, Chanel jewels became bolder in scale and richer in presence, capturing the glamour and confidence of the era while remaining faithful to Coco’s original codes. This period marked a high point in Chanel costume jewellery – sculptural, weighty and unmistakably recognisable – reflecting a time when heritage was reinterpreted with conviction rather than nostalgia. Today, jewels from the Lagerfeld–Castellane years are considered among the most collectible and enduring expressions of Chanel’s jewellery legacy.
Every piece of vintage Chanel jewellery in Jennifer’s collection is individually sourced and meticulously authenticated, chosen for its design significance and lasting allure. Her eye for exceptional craftsmanship and House heritage has earned recognition beyond the collector’s circle – with several standout pieces selected for the prestigious Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto exhibition at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum in 2024. A testament to the cultural and historical value of these jewels, and to Jennifer’s dedication to preserving their legacy.

Vintage costume jewellery is delicate and requires special care and attention.
To preserve its continued beauty and condition, it is important to keep your item boxed and protected from other jewellery when not being worn and away from liquids including perfume and hairspray. Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.
Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.
We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.
Additional Care Tips:
Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.
Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.
Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing. Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.
Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.
We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
