Monet Necklace 1970s by Elda Krecic Vintage Gold Plated Modernist Style

SOLD

This stunning original 1970s Vintage Monet Necklace certainly ranks sky high as a fabulous statement piece with it’s bold assertive V shaped design and oversized pendant. This Monet Necklace is a heavily gold plated, texturised, art deco inspired, original 1970s piece from the House of Monet. I was fortunate to be able to find the exact piece amongst the Monet archive information so I hope you enjoy knowing more about this amazing piece. This particular Monet Necklace was designed by Monet Lead Designer Elda Krecic and was produced in 1972. Elda came to America from Italy, in 1929 during the Great Depression, with her family. She was appointed lead designer at Monet for 15 years from 1969.  Prior to Monet she designed at many top end American Couture and Jewellery Houses, such as Hattie Carnegie. In fact it was Elda who designed Mamie Eisenhower’s purse for her first inaugural dress by Hattie Carnegie. Now back to the necklace…when worn the effect of this Monet Necklace is a wonderful bold collar leading to an equally bold pendant sitting beautifully on the chestbone. The perfect piece to add that va va voom to your décolletage!  And finally, a little about the incredible history of Monet. Monet are an incredibly successful and entrepreneurial company. Monet founders and heirs literally transcended centuries, in one form or another, with their business and innovative take on personal adornments and costume jewels. They were one of the first to provide personal monograms to partner companies for their products, for example. As you can see in this Monet Necklace, during the 1970’s Monet jewels focused on bold style and clever use, including texturising, of richly gilded and heavily gold plated base metals. This incredible necklace by Elda Krecic is a fabulous high quality example of Monet, during this era. Without doubt it was an important and premium piece in their collection, commanding a substantial price. This Monet Necklace, with care, will certainly last for decades to come and will always keep its amazing rich look.

This necklace is in excellent vintage condition and incredibly wearable and versatile for today’s and no doubt future fashion and styles. Layer it over a top for a dramatic colour contrast effect or on bare skin at the neck of a blouse of V neck cashmere jumper or indeed go uber glam with a plunge jumpsuit or evening dress. Amazing!

This Monet Necklace measures approx. 41cm long plus a 5cm extender to allow you to alter the length to suit you. The collar part of the necklace measures a dramatic 2.5cm wide and the pendant approx. 9.5cm long by 8.5cm wide. The necklace is fully signed Monet.

And a final note on this piece, this fabulous necklace was styled by Jennifer Gibson Jewellery in the recent Commercial for Cutty Sark Whisky. The commercial set in the 1920s-1930s ‘speak easy’ era and this delightful piece with it’s nod to Art Deco style, was chosen and worn by one of the two leading actresses in the filming.

Whether you are a vintage jewellery addict or simply enjoy magnificent examples of vintage costume jewellery for a timeless fashion statement or heirloom, this is a fabulous piece with so much history, style and design.

The matching bracelet is also available on our website should you choose to consider both peices designed by Elda. This listing is for the necklace only and the photographs of the set for information only.

Vintage costume jewellery is delicate and requires special care and attention.

To preserve its continued beauty and condition, it is important to keep your item boxed and protected from other jewellery when not being worn and away from liquids including perfume and hairspray. Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.

Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.

We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.

Additional Care Tips:

Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.

Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing. Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.

Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.

We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
