Antique Pendant Garnet Bug on Smokey Quartz 1880s

In stock

An outstanding and rare piece of fine antique jewellery. A natural smokey quartz pendant with a jewelled bee set atop. This Antique Bee Pendant dates to the late 19th Century and the Victorian era. Beetle or bug jewellery is highly collectable and a symbol of good luck to the wearer during the Victorian Eras. The base and bale of the pendant are both made from natural smokey quartz stone which is rare for this type of pendant and extremely beautiful. Smokey quartz is a semi precious natural stone and is known for it's powerful cleansing and detoxing effects. The large oval smokey quartz is beautifully faceted allowing the stone to catch the light and throw out subtle brown to brownish grey shades. The bale is wonderfully fashioned in matching quartz and incorporates a hanging loop, most likely silver gilt and a pin neatly attaches the bale to the main drop. The crowning glory of this piece is the jewel set bee. This delightful bee is made from gold and set with a faceted round and heart shaped garnet. The bee is beautifully finished with fine etching to depict the detail of the wing. A truly wonderful piece of Antique jewellery around 140 years old and in exceptional condition without damage or repair. This Antique Bee Pendant measures approx. 6cm long by approx. 3.2 cm wide and at least 2cm deep. An incredible piece of wearable art that in addition to its rich history now has a place in modern history with the resurgence of the bee as an emblem. These pendants are a very rare find and highly desirable. Should you choose to buy from us, we commit to the item being as described. Your vintage costume jewellery will arrive beautifully packaged and presented, helping to preserve your one of a kind piece. Don't hesitate to contact us should you require further assistance.

Vintage and antique costume jewellery is a luxury traditionally crafted product and it needs special care to preserve its exceptional character. Below please find some advice on care and simple steps you can take:

Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.

We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.

Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.

Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.

Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing.

Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.

We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
