Antique Talisman Pendant Heart Shaped Garnet Bug on Faceted Natural Smokey Quartz 1880s
OUT OF STOCK
An outstanding and rare piece of antique talisman jewellery. Comprising a stunning natural smokey quartz pendant with a beautifully crafted jewelled bee set atop. This handmade antique bee pendant dates to the late Victorian era, circa the 1880s. Around one hundred and forty years ago. Beetle or bug jewellery is highly collectable and was a type of talisman symbol of good luck to the wearer during the Victorian era. The base and bale of the pendant are both made from natural smokey quartz stone which is rare for this type of pendant, often rock crystal and it is clearly an extremely beautiful natural stone. Smokey quartz is a semi precious natural stone, known for it’s powerful cleansing and detoxing effects which is also a beautiful aspect of this piece. The large oval smokey quartz is exquisitely faceted allowing the stone to catch the light to perfection, casting off subtle shades of deep brown to brownish grey. The bale or top is wonderfully fashioned in a matching piece of smokey quartz and incorporates a hanging loop, most likely silver gilt with a simple pin finding neatly attaching the bale to the main drop. The crowning glory of this piece is the jewel set bee. This delightful bee is crafted in gold and set with round and heart shaped faceted garnets. The bee is beautifully finished with fine etching cleverly depicting the wing detail. A truly wonderful piece of sentimental antique jewellery brought to you in exceptional condition, without damage or repair. This antique bee pendant measures approx. 6cm long by approx. 3.2 cm wide and is at least 2cm deep. An incredible piece of wearable art with a rich heritage and undoubtedly a place in today’s jewel box with it’s talisman like properties and symbolism. These adorable pendants with such delightful meaning are a very rare find indeed.

Vintage costume jewellery is delicate and requires special care and attention.
To preserve its continued beauty and condition, it is important to keep your item boxed and protected from other jewellery when not being worn and away from liquids including perfume and hairspray. Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.
Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.
We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.
Additional Care Tips:
Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.
Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.
Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing. Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.
Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.
We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
