A Golden Collaboration with RIXO at London Fashion Week

Vintage Inspiration

I was thrilled to be invited to join the star-studded line up at London Fashion Week, as part of a golden collaboration with British fashion brand, RIXO.

Orlagh McCloskey and Henrietta Rix, founders of the vintage-inspired business, chose some of our truly exceptional vintage pieces to bring their AW22 ‘The Golden Age’ collection’ to life.

Rixo took over the opulent setting of Goldsmith’s Hall in St Paul’s to stage an uplifting and utterly spellbinding show, which was a decadent homage to 1930s Hollywood glamour and a sparkling celebration of style, joy, diversity and lavish adornment. We’re talking chandeliers, champagne towers, Campari cocktails and classic jazz. Everything, from the collection, to the venue and of course, the jewels, was golden and absolute perfection.

In true Rixo style, the creative duo took their inspiration from hand-picked vintage treasures, reworking 1930s screen prints on silks and metallic jacquards to produce a collection full of hand-painted prints, elegantly embellished with geometric patterns, velvets and sequins – old Hollywood glamour at its best. The collection is also Rixo’s first featuring a full size range from 6-24. Speaking about the show’s glamorous theme, Orlagh, commented: “We just wanted to honour dressing up and having fun, and I think it’s been one of our favourite eras in terms of shapes and silhouettes. We’ve still got our classic Rixo looks but we’ve added that 1930s aesthetic and mixed the sexy with the demure.” In an interview with Country and Town House the duo added: “We are so inspired by vintage, and it has been so fun creating another collection that really sticks true to our vintage-inspired aesthetic. We can’t wait to see everyone wearing it later in the year!”

Making a statement with gold jewels

Out of the ten pieces selected by Rixo, a fabulous seven were used to create sensational looks for the show. Bold collars, including our 1980s pearl necklace and Nina Ricci ruby collar decorated necklines and eye-catching door knocker and oversized hoop earrings, which featured in four of the looks, were the order of the day; with Rixo’s model diversity proving that a statement earring suits everyone. For me, the standout piece was a strapless gold lamé dress with a low-slung skirt, a nod to the flapper style of the 1930s, teamed with our gold hoop cascade earrings for a spectacular look, not surprisingly adored by the world’s fashion press! The pairing of Rixo’s stunningly beautiful, vintage-inspired prints with some of our most extravagant jewels, was a stroke of genius and a real golden moment in a year that’s already shaping up to be a true vintage!
