A Vintage Schiaparelli Monochrome Necklace demi-parure crafted during the 1950s. Composed of countless strands of faceted black and clear crystal beads interwoven with soft grey pearls in graduating sizes, the set creates extraordinary texture and light play across the surface. Aurora borealis highlights catch subtly between the darker tones, giving flashes of iridescence and movement amongst the otherwise restrained monochrome palette. The effect feels both opulent and remarkably modern.
The many layered rows create real statement presence, yet the monochrome colouring keeps the design refined and wearable. There is something timelessly chic about the combination of black, crystal and soft silver grey, a palette so closely associated with the modern elegance introduced into fashion by houses such as Schiaparelli and Chanel during the early to mid 20th century.
Particularly beautiful are the signature rhodium plated floral clasps featured on both the necklace and bracelet. Rather than being hidden fastenings, they become part of the overall design itself, adding a sculptural finishing detail that reflects Schiaparelli’s instinct for treating every element as part of the visual story.
Created during the final years of Elsa Schiaparelli’s time at the helm of the House, the set reflects the glamorous statement styling of the 1950s while still carrying the sense of individuality and design awareness that defined Schiaparelli’s wider legacy.
Why this piece:
A beautifully dramatic signed Schiaparelli parure combining couture scale with a timeless monochrome palette that feels every bit as sophisticated and relevant today as it did during the 1950s.
Elsa Schiaparelli founded the House of Schiaparelli in Paris in the late 1920s and remained at its creative helm through the 1930s and into the post war years, establishing one of the most intellectually daring and artistically significant couture houses of the 20th century. Working at the intersection of fashion, surrealism and art, Schiaparelli collaborated with some of the leading creative minds of her era, including Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau. Her work challenged traditional ideas of couture through bold symbolism, sculptural forms and an instinct for disruption that still feels remarkably modern today. Jewellery played a central role within her vision. Never treated as secondary adornment, Schiaparelli’s jewels became part of the narrative itself. Surreal motifs, unexpected materials and striking scale brought wit, theatricality and artistic commentary into couture at the very highest level. Though Elsa Schiaparelli closed her house in 1954, her influence has never faded. The visual language she created continues to shape contemporary fashion, from statement jewellery and sculptural accessories to the blending of art and couture seen across the industry today. Under the current direction of Daniel Roseberry, the House of Schiaparelli has introduced her legacy to a new generation, reaffirming its place as one of fashion’s most iconic and enduring maisons.

Vintage costume jewellery is delicate and requires special care and attention.
To preserve its continued beauty and condition, it is important to keep your item boxed and protected from other jewellery when not being worn and away from liquids including perfume and hairspray. Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.
Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.
We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.
Additional Care Tips:
Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.
Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.
Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing. Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.
Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.
We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
