Vintage Dior Necklace by Mitchel Maer with Striking Green and Black Stones 1950s

In stock

A delightful and important Vintage Dior Necklace by Mitchel Maer originating from the costume jewellery heyday of the 1950s and during the eponymous founder of the House of Dior, Christian Dior's lifetime. This adorable vintage Mitchel Maer Dior necklace would have been made in England for Christian Dior by the London based designer Mitchel Maer between the years of 1952 and 1956. Mitchel Maer's work was second to none during this period and throughout his collaboration with Christian Dior and the House of Dior. His ingenuity in design and close collaboration with Paris saw the creation of some of the prime and most adventurous pieces of early Christian Dior jewellery. This talent earned Maer the unparalleled privilege of co-signing his pieces with the iconic designer of dreams, Monsieur Christian Dior himself. Hence the oval cartouche on the reverse of this necklace saying 'Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer'. Sadly this relationship was short lived. After just a few years the relationship soured, Maer became bankrupt and the Dior name removed from his pieces. Just one year later Christian Dior died an untimely death leaving one of the most impressive fashion legacies the world has ever known. Given the provenance of the Mitchel Maer for Dior pieces and the fleeting existence of this premier design collaboration, this necklace is inevitably an exceptionally special and rare collectors piece. Featuring the most sublime brilliant cut gold foiled Swarovski crystals and rare moss agate effect coloured art glass cabochon stones with contrasting black faceted ovals - all claw set within silver-tone metal settings. The metals are a blend of pot metal and rhodium. The setting in itself a work of art. The necklace measures a maximum length of approx. 41cm and is designed to be worn shorter to lay high on the neck. As with many of our pieces, this pieces emits a great deal more vibrance and sparkle than can be captured in images. The white crystals remain exceptionally bright and glint and glisten beautifully when worn. Brought to you in very good vintage condition without damage or repair. A wonderful opportunity to acquire an important piece of Christian Dior history that remains perfectly en trend today. Testament to the work of the House of Dior and its founders groundbreaking talents. Dior's mid century pieces remain totally elegant, timeless and forever iconic. Should you choose to buy from us, we commit to the item being as described. Your vintage costume jewellery will arrive beautifully packaged and presented, helping to preserve your one of a kind piece. Don't hesitate to contact us should you require further assistance.

Vintage and antique costume jewellery is a luxury traditionally crafted product and it needs special care to preserve its exceptional character. Below please find some advice on care and simple steps you can take:

Your order will include our care card suggesting ways to maintain the condition of your jewellery.

We cannot be held liable for any damages incurred after the receipt of products.

Items are typically most suited to occasional rather than constant wear.

Avoid contact with liquids or humidity including sprays such as water, perfume or hairspray and creams. Exposing jewellery to wet or damp could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discolouration and/or loss of stones. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming etc.

Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Add your jewellery last when dressing and remove before undressing.

Avoid hard contact (i.e. dropping or knocking against objects) that can cause scratches or chips.

We are always happy to advise on the care specifics of a particular piece you may be considering.
